A wet room is a bathroom where the shower area is level with the rest of the floor, with no tray or step. The whole room is waterproofed and the floor falls gently to a drain. It looks clean and modern, makes a small bathroom feel bigger, and is ideal for anyone with limited mobility.
Wet rooms need careful construction, because the waterproofing is what protects your home. They are part of our bathroom renovation service, and work just as well as an en-suite.
How we build a wet room
We form the floor with a gentle fall towards a linear or centre drain, then apply a tanking membrane across the floor and up the walls before tiling. On timber floors we may lower the joists or use a pre-formed former to create the fall. Good ventilation is essential, so we fit a properly sized extractor fan.
